The real Destrehan Plantation is located only minutes from New Orleans in Destrehan, Louisiana. At right, actual photo serves as the fictitious Matheson’s Manor where Ma Tressie, Aunt Agnes, Liza and Willa lived and worked. In most antebellum plantation houses, slaves did occupy the attic space.
